Sorry deswegen...
I have a strange problem with my nvidia 7800 GT board which refuses to be set at a 1366 (or 1360 or 1368) by 768 resolution.
I installed the card two days ago (switching from an ATI X800), and I'm "almost" 100% sure that in the beginning everything was fine.
However today morning I realized that there's something wrong with my screen (computer is hooked to a 37" LCD via DVI, normally running at 1366x768). The image looked somehow streched and wider than it should be. Looking into the display properties revealed that the card ran at 1024x768. My LCD still looks perfectly crisp at that resolution as long as it is set to 16:9 mode (which it is all the time), so I didn't noticed it earlier.
The strange thing is that the resolution slider in the "display properties" panel still lists the 1366x768 resolution I had used before with the ATI card - but vice versa. Meaning it is listed as "768x1366", and when I switch to that resolution it's indeed a completely distorted image with a WIDTH of 768 and HEIGTH of 1366 pixels. Completely stupid.
Tried to use Powerstrip to add the correct resolution. The powerstrip resolution slider on the display property site also ends at 1024x768. When I try to add the 1366x768 resolution, I first get the message that the driver accepted the resolution and whether I want to use it now. In the past (with the ATI card), after clicking "OK" it said that Windows needs to restart in order to activate the new resolution. After a restart, it was available for selection. Now with the Geforce card, after clicking "OK" absolutely nothing happens. No further message boxes, no resolution change, nothing. It stucks at a maximum resolution of 1024x768.
I then tried the "extended timing" panel of the Geforce driver which basically allows to do the same than with Powerstrip. I tried to add a 1366x768 resolution, and the result looks like this:
Sorry for the poor image, but I believe you can get the picture. Basically, I can clearly see that it's now a full 1366 horizontal pixels, but the screen is somehow doubled/panned at exactly the point where 1024 pixel would end.
I also checked the monitor .inf files, but everything is perfectly fine. Powerstrip reports a maximum resolution of 1600x1200 for the active PnP monitor.
I ended up reinstalling the whole system with a backup that I created right after a fresh XP installation. Unfortunately the backup already had the ATI driver in it, so I had to uninstall it, then install the Geforce driver, but that shouldn't really matter. And guess what - same problem.
Is there someone out there who has ANY suggestions? I'm completely lost at the moment... ![]()
