Eine neue Firmware (derzeit nur für die CDMA-Version) verwandelt das iPhone in einen WLAN-Hotspot. Zusatzsoftware, wie MyWi, die einen Jailbreak benötigen kann man sich somit sparen.
Offen ist, ob diese Funktion auf jedes iPhone und in jedem Land kommen wird, und ob Provider dies (wie auch die Tethering Funktionen) in ihren Provider-Einstellungen sperren oder freigeben können.
