  • Smartphone - P800 und was noch?

    airJames: Billiger ja. Aber besser? - Ganz klares Nein!
    Von der Ausstattung und Funktionalität ist derzeit das P800 ungeschlagen.


    Von mir eine ganz klare Kaufempfehlung. Habe niemals ein perfekteres Phone besessen wie das P800. Der Preis ist nicht ganz zu verachten, aber trotzdem finde ich das Preis-Leistungsverhältnis top.


    Ich kann mich noch an Zeiten erinnern, da hab ich für ein Nokia 8210 auch 1200,- DM auf den Tisch gelegt!

    Sony Ericsson cuts products, jobs in profit drive

    STOCKHOLM, June 24 (Reuters) - Struggling mobile phone maker Sony Ericsson said on Tuesday it would pare back its product range, close a research and development facility and shed 500 jobs in an attempt to swing into profit.


    The loss-making company, a 50-50 venture between Swedish telecoms equipment maker Ericsson ERICb.ST and Japanese consumer electronics group Sony 6758.T , said it would cease making handsets for the North American market using code division multiple access (CDMA) technology.


    It will continue making CDMA handsets for customers in Japan.


    "R&D activities in Munich, Germany will be phased out. In total approximately 500 employees will be affected in Munich...and at Sony Ericsson's CDMA R&D centre in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina," the company said in a statement.


    Sony Ericsson, hobbled last year by organisational problems and delayed product launches, saw its share of the global mobile phone market languishing at less than five percent in the first quarter of 2003, according to industry research group Gartner Dataquest.


    Sony Ericsson had set a target of becoming profitable this year and capturing a market share of seven to 10 percent, although Sony Ericsson spokesman Peter Bodor could not confirm whether the company was on track to meet its targets.


    A further update on its progress would come with second quarter results due on July 18, he said.


    He added the latest move aimed to concentrate the venture's resources on global standard for mobile communications (GSM) networks, the dominant format for existing mobile phone services, and future third-generation (3G) networks that promise fast wireless Internet connections and video phone calling.


    "We started to grow in GSM and wanted to concentrate our resources there and down the road in 3G," Bodor said. "Our market share within CDMA within the U.S. has been too small."


    Analysts said the latest move appeared timely and believed the loss maker would move into the black.


    "I think you will see them profitable from the third quarter onwards," said Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein analyst Per Lindberg, who has a "buy" rating on Ericsson.


    "This is a risk-reducing move, pure and simple."


    The CDMA operation in North America was a marginal part of the company's business, accounting for one or two percent of total turnover.


    "The conclusion is that, in this case, profitability came first and market share second," Lindberg said.


    Earlier, Ericsson announced it would outsource its IT applications services worldwide to International Business Machines Corp IBM.N , a move analysts said was widely expected, for an unspecified amount.


    A similar agreement Ericsson struck with Hewlett-Packard HPQ.N on June 4, which outsourced information technology infrastructure, was worth hundreds of millions of euros.


    Ericsson's share price closed off 3.5 percent in Stockholm at 8.35 crowns ($1.06), with the EuroStoxx tech sector index .SX8P 1.6 percent in the red.


    Sony ended Tokyo trade down 3.48 percent at 3,330 yen, compared with a 2.24 percent drop in the Tokyo Stock Exchange's electrical machinery index .IELEC.T . (Additional reporting Peter Starck, Olof Swahnberg, Stockholm)

    Das Update lohnt sich.


    Ob es eine entsprechende Version fürs T300 auch gibt weiss ich nicht, liegt aber wohl auf der Hand.

  • SonyEricsson verliert weiter Marktanteile

    T39 und R520 hätten sich auch bei einer Omnipräsenz in Funk und Fernsehen wahrscheinlich kaum besser verkauft -


    das T39 hatte nunmal ein Mini-Display, eine externe Antenne und eine Klappe. Alles Dinge die denkbar unpopulär sind.


    Das R520 war noch schlimmer - ein Riesen-Lulatsch, der noch aus der tiefsten Tasche herausragte, getoppt von einer Antenne und gepaart mit einem kantigen unförmigen Design. Sowas wollte niemand haben.
